Delhi Airport adjudged second safest airport globally for its effective COVID-19 safety protocols

After a long two months of lockdown, the aviation sector was able to breathe once again after the Government of India announced the resumption of domestic operations from May 25 onwards. Since then, Delhi Airport has acted as one of the model airports for post lockdown preparedness.

Ever since the coronavirus outbreak gripped the entire nation, GMR led Delhi Airport has been maintaining enhanced standards of cleanliness and hygiene of the airports and its premises. From implementing touchless initiatives to developing UV based disinfection process and AIR SUVIDHA portal, the airport left no stone unturned to arm itself with technologies.

In this testing time, DIAL has stood out of the crowd by standing on its commitment to provide world-class amenities and facilities to the flyers. At the time when people are only willing to step out if the mode of transportation prioritises the health of travellers, Delhi Airport played a critical role in easing the passengers into the new normal.

Delhi Airport has now emerged as the second safest airport in the world amid COVID-19 widespread. The Safe Travel Score, which is an industry-first rating initiative by Safe Travel Barometer, assessed more than 200 airports on their implementation of coronavirus health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Safe Travel Barometer is among the world's largest and most comprehensive tools to monitor traveller health and safety protocols.

Close on the heels of Singapore Changi Airport, which scored 4.7 out of 5, Delhi’s IGI Airport bagged the second position in the Safe Travel Barometer’s list by scoring 4.6.



Safety measures at Delhi Airport

Specially designed UV (ultraviolet) based tunnels to disinfect Check-point trays and baggage

More than 700 UV lamps have been put in place to replace the air inside the terminal with fresh, contagion-free air in every 10 minutes using UV light and Hepa filters

DIAL has placed visually impactful designs at various locations inside the terminal building to make social distancing more effective among passengers

A team of 700 housekeeping personnel have been deployed, who work round the clock in shifts, for intense sanitisation

The health of DIAL staff is checked for any COVID-19 symptoms regularly before resuming to their duty.

All employees are provided with adequate PPE kits, sanitizers and liquid soaps

Delhi Airport developed AIR SUVIDHA, a contact-less solution for easy and hassle-free arrival process of India-bound international passengers.

Passengers are being regularly encouraged to use web check-in and Scan & Fly facilities to minimise physical contact at the airport

DIAL collaborated with Genestrings Diagnostic Centre – a Delhi-based laboratory and launched India’s first on-site coronavirus testing laboratory at IGIA for the arriving international passengers.
