Unlocking A Sustainable, Carbon-Free Future

Governments, organisations and individuals have unitedly focused their efforts on immediate recovery from the health, economic and employment consequences of the Covid- 19 pandemic. This unified approach on a global level has brought hope that we can manage the climate change crisis in a similarly decisive manner.

Many countries, including India have already strengthened their climate actions to tackle the issue in an integrated, comprehensive and holistic way. As part of our country's commitment under the Paris Climate Agreement, signed in 2015, the temperature level needs to be maintained below 2 degrees.

To ensure adequate compliance to this commitment, GMR led airports across the nation are making consistent efforts. Over the years we have improved our systems with sustainable, waste-reducing and carbon-neutral technologies. Below are the national and international accreditations received by GMR led Hyderabad and Delhi Airports in the year 2020 for their environment sustainability efforts

IGIA receives Asia Pacific's first Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation

Delhi Airport reached "Level 3+, Neutrality" in 2016, as the first Carbon Neutral Airport in Asia Pacific region. This was the highest level of accreditation at that time and Delhi Airport has maintained "Level 3+, Neutrality" accreditation since then.

And, now with the addition of Level 4 (Transformation) and Level 4+ (Transition) to the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program of Airport Council International (ACI) in 2020, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) also well known as Delhi Airport has yet again justified its capability to justify the highest level of accreditation

This is an outcome of the consistent efforts made by the airports' team to reduce carbon emissions through use of alternate sources of energy, resource conservation programs, green infrastructure, green mobility


RGIA receives Platinum Recognition in ACI's Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2020

GMR led Hyderabad International Airport received the highest Platinum Recognition in the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2020 in the 15-35 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) category for its efficient Water Management Practices.

The recognition was the outcome of the submissions shared this year focused on water management documenting approaches to waste water treatment, water harvesting, water recycling and water reduction.

CII-GBC's "National Energy Leader" and "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" Awards


GMR led Delhi and Hyderabad Airports have won the prestigious awards of CII "National Energy Leader" and "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" at the 21st National Awards for "Excellence in Energy Management" organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Godrej Green Business Centre (GBC).

The announcement was made by CII - GBC during a virtual Energy Award event for 2020 held on August 28, 2020.

Hyderabad Airport has been recognized with "Excellent Energy Efficient Unit" and "National Energy Leader" accolades for the 4th and 2nd year in a row, respectively. On the other hand, Delhi Airport received the awards for their consistent efforts made in this sector over the past three years.

The jury evaluated the participants on many parameters of energy efficiency and innovative thought process adopted.

Hyderabad Airport receives CII - Green Power Performance Excellence Awards 2020


GMR led Hyderabad Airport has won the prestigious CII - Green Power Performance Excellence Awards 2020 in the "Ground Mounted Solar" Category.

The award was virtually presented during an event organized by the Renewable Energy (RE) Council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Godrej Green Business Centre (GBC) from 1st - 4th December, 2020.

The award came as a recognition for the excellent initiatives taken by the airport in generating the solar energy in its 5 MW Solar Plant.

USGBC's 2020 Greenbuild Leadership Award for Delhi Airport


The 2020 Greenbuild Leadership Awards of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) was awarded to GMR Group for various green initiatives taken at Delhi Airport.

The Greenbuild Leadership Award recognizes organizations and individuals advancing the development of sustainable and resilient buildings, cities and communities.

The high-level certifications of USGBC's standards -- LEED (Gold), LEED-Arc (Platinum), PEER (Platinum) to the recent LEED Registration in 2020 for the Airport Expansion -- are the visible demonstration of leadership focus on various sustainable development initiatives at Delhi Airport.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) works toward its mission of market transformation through its LEED green building program, robust educational offerings, an international network of local community leaders.

Telangana State Energy Conservation Awards - 2020 (TSECA) for Hyderabad Airport


Hyderabad Airport has clinched the prestigious Gold Award in "Telangana State Energy Conservation Awards - 2020 (TSECA)" for its consistent efforts in ensuring energy conservation.

The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (TSREDC) annual forum recognizes the companies engaged in Energy Efficiency initiatives that adopt best practices and technological advancement in their daily operations. The jury evaluated the participants on many parameters and innovative thought process adopted.
